S2E7 - Not Your Grandfather’s Dry January
Description:
To kick off 2024 the Green Docs raise a glass with Dan Scott, a master mixologist in Los Angeles, California and founder of his own craft beverage catering company, The Whaling Club. With over a decade of experience blending spirits in New York, DC, and now LA, Dan has served some of Hollywood’s brightest stars – and here he’s sharing custom mocktail recipes just for us. Because as you’ll learn, this is not your Grandfather’s Dry January.
Nate and Bruce break down the headlines: the ozone hole is getting… smaller, California recycles champagne bottles, and Paris’ waterway reopens to swimmers. In-Seine! Throughout the episode they share New Year’s Resolutions from past guests including Jeanne Conry, Kristin Lyerly, and Alex Rivest, and they add a few of their own too. Plus, who can help Nate figure out what fish to order at a restaurant? Imbibe a cup o’kindness with the Green Docs to greet 2024: restorative, informative, slightly less pejorative. Cheers!

Founder
In 2012, Dan hosted a series of underground cocktail pop-ups he called The Whaling Club. Drawing inspiration from Southern California’s seasonal markets and cultural diversity, these intimate cocktail parties allowed Dan to refine his unique perspective on cocktails and acted as a launching pad for that would become LA’s leading cocktail production company.
In 2020, Dan opened a neighbor bottle shop called Fancy Free Liquor, which is named after a somewhat obscure prohibition era Old Fashioned variation. He and his team have pulled from decades of product knowledge to stock the shelves with some of the most exciting craft spirits, local beers, and natural wines available.
Dan's creative approach to business to as allowed him to help shape drinking culture beyond the traditional cocktail bar experience.
